Instrument Care: Cleaning Before Sterilization
Rinse promptly, follow facility SOPs, and retire damaged edges. Autoclave cycles do not repair corrosion or bent tips.

Sterilization is not a shortcut past cleaning
Organic residue left on instruments can protect microbes and shorten instrument life. Rinse promptly after use, then follow your facility cleaning and sterilization SOPs.
Inspect tips, locks, and edges before returning items to a tray. Damaged instruments should be removed from service — autoclaving will not restore a bent tip or a dull blade.
